Do I need to have my Nectar card with me to use SmartShop?
If you choose to use a handset, you will need to scan your Nectar or add your Nectar card number. You can find your Nectar number on your Nectar card or in the Nectar app.
Once I've registered for SmartShop, can I use it at any Sainsbury's store?
SmartShop is available to be used in the majority of stores. SmartShop handsets are available in a large number of our supermarkets and the use of SmartShop via our app is available in the majority of Convenience stores with some exceptions.
How do I check out and pay for my shopping?
Whether you are using a SmartShop handset or the SmartShop app on your mobile phone, you can pay at a dedicated card-only SmartShop checkout or at a self-checkout that is SmartShop enabled (varies between stores).
If you are shopping using the SmartShop app in Convenience stores, you will be able to pay with Mobile Pay and avoid the checkouts completely (available in selected stores, look out for signs in the store).

Why did someone check my items?
Occasionally we will ask to perform a rescan on your shop. During a rescan, a colleague will scan a number of items from your basket. This is to check that nothing has been double-scanned or hasn't been scanned properly.
These checks will only happen occasionally when you're checking out at the end of your shop.

Does SmartShop work on all smartphones?
The SmartShop app works with Apple iPhones (iOS 15 or later) and Android phones (running Android 8 or later).
Some of our stores also have handsets at the front of store which you can use to complete your SmartShop shop.

Can I collect and redeem Nectar points and use my coupons with SmartShop?
You can collect and redeem Nectar points and use your coupons as normal when paying at a self-checkout.
Currently, you cannot spend Nectar points or use coupons when checking out using Mobile Pay. You can still collect Nectar points with Mobile Pay.

Is there anything I can't buy with SmartShop?
Currently we can't sell any of the following with SmartShop: tobacco products, Lotto or Health Lottery tickets, gift cards, postage stamps, mobile phone top-ups or any PayPoint products.
